DAY 1 - 5 miles
It was a beautiful day to start the event. Weather was perfect. I had my whole family down to see the beginning. I rode the first 5 miles with Jim Vaccaro of Central Jersey Bank, my sponsor. We had pictures taken for the papers and overall a fun day.
Hard to believe that it is underway. I am excited to see what happens. There are some many unknowns and things that can happen. That is the beauty of a sporting event. You have to play it to see what happens. We shall see. The rest of the day I will take it easy. Going to lunch with my kids and grand kids and then I will prepare for the ride tomorrow. I have decided to stay on the shore because of the heat. I will start as soon as the sun rises, about 5:30 am.

- I am 64 years old and have been a visionary my whole life. I saw Frank Shorter win the Olympics in 1972, and I said I want to run a marathon. Since then I have run 50. I watched the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii on TV and I said I want to do that. 3 years later I finished the Iron man in Hawaii. I was 45 at the time. I watched all of the Tour de France this year,2009,and I said I want to do that. Unable to compete in the Tour, I will do the same miles they do on the same days in July. Can I do it? The saying goes "Man can achieve what the mind can conceive".
