Training is Done

July 2, 2010,

I have been waiting for this day for a very long time. 11 months of training is now in the books. What I am so grateful for is that I did not have a major fall and the flats I had were early on and not during long rides. What happens from now on is part of the event. I really feel I am mentally ready and I believe, though only time will tell, that I am physically ready to do this. As with any event it is all about the journey to get to the starting line. For me it was the 11,000 miles I did in training and the focus I was able to keep to get to today. I am proud of what I have done. Raising in excess of $10,000 for the LAF has been a cause worth doing.
I have put the names of cancer survivors on my bike so I can look at them and know that my battle pales in comparison to theirs.

Tomorrow is the ceremonial first day and I will ride 5 miles for a prologue. The work begins on Sunday and goes for 22 more days. I will write my experiences each day to let you experience what is happening to me during the day.

Today I rode very easy and was so excited when I got off the bike in one piece. I made it to the starting line.

Crunches: 300
Push Ups: 60

Total Distance: 15 miles
Total Time: 1 hour and 6 minutes

Phil
